SUMMARY:FES Cycling: The Evidence for Who\, What\, Where\, When and Why (Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Join the webinar here \nCourse Description\nThis live webinar is an in-depth study on functional electrical stimulation (FES)\, with a specific focus on FES cycling. We’ll begin with a review of the principles of NMES and FES\, then go on to discuss which patients are and are not candidates for FES cycling therapy\, and then we perform an exhaustive review of the published literature on clinical outcomes of FES cycling therapy for different patient populations. \nThe current evidence for and against the use of FES cycling therapy by diagnosis is presented for spinal cord injury\, multiple sclerosis\, stroke/hemiparesis\, and cerebral palsy. This course is designed to equip clinicians with knowledge of the current FES cycling literature along with practical guidance they can incorporate directly into their daily practice. \nCredits: 2.0 contact hours or 0.2 CEUs: AL\, AK\, AZ\, AR\, CA\, CO\, CT\, DE\, FL\, GA\, HI\, ID\, IN\, IA\, KS\, MD\, MA\, MI\, MS\, MO\, MT\, NE\, NH\, NC\, ND\, NY\, OH\, OK\, OR\, PA\, RI\, SC\, SD\, TN\, TX\, UT\, VT\, VA\, WA\, WI\, WY. Approved by the Physical Therapy Boards of California\, New York\, Texas\, Ohio\, and Maryland. Check with your specific licensing board to confirm eligibility. \n  \nCourse Objectives\nAfter completion of the course\, the participant will be able to: \n\nExplain the physiology of how FES cycling works\nCite the indications and contraindications of FES cycling\nList four diagnoses for which the majority of FES cycling research is focused\nIdentify five potential benefits of FES cycling as indicated by the literature\n\n  \nCourse Schedule\n7:00-7:15: Introduction\, FES physiology\, and the role and purpose of FES cycling7:15-7:30: FES cycling indications and contraindications\, and electrode placement7:30-8:00: Evidence review of FES cycling for SCI8:00-8:45: Evidence review of FES cycling for MS\, CVA\, and CP8:45-9:00 Summary\, clinical takeaways\, and Q&A \n  \nSpeaker Bio: Liz Fuhrhop\, PT\, DPT\nLiz Fuhrhop earned her Bachelor’s in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Illinois and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Tennessee State University. She worked for the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago in the DayRehab program for over six years\, serving in various roles including as a member of the Physical Therapy Practice Council and assisting with research and new technologies. At SRALAB\, she began to incorporate FES cycling into her practice\, and took on the role as Clinical Support Specialist for MYOLYN in April of 2022 to assist clients in maximizing their programs and educate clinicians on the role of FES in neurological rehabilitation.
