MYOLYN Joins the Cybathlon FES Bike Race

On October 8, 2016 in Zurich, Switzerland MYOLYN will be competing in the Cybathlon, a competition which we like to describe as the world’s first augmented Olympics. As stated on the Cybathlon’s official website, http://www.cybathlon.ethz.ch/, the Cybathlon is “a championship for pilots with disabilities who are using advanced assistive devices including robotic technologies.”

The Cybathlon will include 6 different disciplines, including an FES bike race. In this event, the pilots will have a thoracic spinal cord injury with a complete loss of motor function, yet will be required to cycle around a 1000 meter track using only their legs and an electrical stimulator.

MYOLYN is developing the most advanced FES cycling algorithms in the world. By precisely controlling the timing and intensity of stimulation applied to all of the rider’s muscle groups, MYOLYN’s algorithms can enable a paralyzed pilot to generate a smooth pedaling motion that provides more power than other FES cycling systems.

We intend on taking home gold for the Cybathlon’s FES bike race, so keep a look out for the race next fall. In the mean time, check out some of the Cybathlon promotional videos and the other awesome discliplines in the competition!
