Increased core strength from regular exercise means improving in competitive hobbies.

Meet Christopher Ferranti! He’s a 26-year-old who lives at home with his parents and his beloved black lab/boxer mix, Luna. In his free time, he participates in archery and spends time with his family and dog. Learn how the MyoCycle helped aid in Christopher’s rehabilitation!
C6 Spinal Cord Injury

During a beach visit in 2020, Christopher sustained a spinal cord injury at the C6 level. After his injury, he experienced spasms and spasticity that continued even with the use of medication. He also had trouble managing his blood pressure and had many of his muscles atrophy as a result of his paralysis.

After receiving a MyoCycle at home, Christopher saw his spasticity improve significantly—starting at the medium spasticity level on the MyoCycle when he first got the bike and now being able to exercise on the low spasticity level. His blood pressure got under control as he exercised regularly. He also let us know that his sensation in paralyzed limbs has been “the best it’s ever been” with the use of his MyoCycle.

"I’ve had greater independence and a better quality of life due to my use of my MyoCycle. It's keeping me exercise-minded, and I notice myself getting stronger every week. The more I use my machine, the better I feel about myself."

One of Christopher’s favorite hobbies is adaptive archery, which he got into about a year and a half ago. At first, he would have to shoot from a power wheelchair and had a draw weight of 19 pounds. Today, he can sit upright and balance himself in a manual wheelchair and has a bow-drawing weight of 38 pounds. He attributes his growth in this sport to his ability to train his core and trunk muscles with the MyoCycle.

Every step of the way, Christopher said his experience with the MYOLYN team and the MyoCycle is exceptional. Our own Liz Fuhrhop was his PT, and he described her assistance as a “wealth of knowledge.” He was also impressed by how easy his MyoCycle was to set up and how quickly MYOLYN’s support staff would respond to his requests. “I've had my MyoCycle for months now, and I absolutely love it! [MYOLYN] genuinely cares about me and my recovery,” Christopher commented, “I would recommend this, and only this FES bike to any person living with paralysis. It's very easy to use, and its sleek design doesn't make it look like a piece of medical equipment sitting in my living room. Way more facilities should have these.”
