My name is Madeline Recht. I am a 75-year-old registered nurse who was working full time when, a year ago, I had an incomplete spinal cord injury caused by an infarction at T12. It was sudden and frightening and changed my life. Imagine losing feeling and movement below the waist seemingly out of the blue. I had always been active, busy and healthy prior to my injury. I have been a nurse for over 50 years. I was used to being the caretaker, not the one being cared for. It was a difficult transition. Fortunately, I have a very supportive family and great friends who continue to help me recover. Physical therapy and exercise at home have been very helpful, but, what has made the most difference for me is the MyoCycle.
I was able to acquire a MyoCycle in August 2017 for home use, and it has made an amazing difference in my recovery. I use the MyoCycle for one hour 5-6 days per week and my leg strength has increased to the point that I can now pull myself up with a bar and stand for a brief time. The muscle spasms, which were severe, have decreased. I feel that the MyoCycle has awakened my sleeping legs and I can feel the bottom of my feet again, which is awesome. It is wonderful to be able to exercise my legs and have them feel more alive as the blood can now circulate. It has also improved my mental health, as the MyoCycle has given me hope that changes are ongoing and if I continue working at it, more good things will come. I look forward to each day and the opportunity to make more progress. I highly recommend the MyoCycle to anyone with paralysis. It has improved the quality of my life and it will do the same for them.
